Francisco has the classic case of teenage inflamed acne.  Acne can really ravage the skin of teenage boys – the hormonal fluctuations that teenage boys have can give them horrendous cysts and often they end up with lifelong scars because of it. We started off using the strongest antibacterials we had to get his inflammation under control in the quickest manner possible. We wanted to get the inflammation down as soon as possible to avoid the scarring that could happen if it was left unchecked. His acne cleared up in four month's time and he was left with minimal scarring. Francisco and his father drove 1 5 hours (one way) to get to our clinic.

Danielle came to us with inflamed acne that she had been struggling with since she was ten years old. She had tried antibiotics, Retin A, Tazorac, Differin and Avita and Proactiv. Stephanie came to us after trying everything, including many alternative remedies, but also traditional medicines which included Accutane. She had very typical inflamed acne skin, which is actually the easiest type of acne to get under control. She cleared up in about five months.

When she came to us, she was really frustrated with her skin. She had “tried everything” and was really losing hope of ever having normal looking skin.  Her skin is very sensitive and she has some very resistant inflamed acne mostly in the chin area. Kim had gone to her dermatologist to get her occasional breakouts under control. He prescribed Differin to her and she started using it. Much to her dismay, her chin area started breakout out with inflamed lesions like she had never experienced before in her life. Her doctor told her to just keep using it, that it was just a “flare-up” that sometimes accompanies retinoid use and that it would get better. Stefan had a moderate case of inflamed acne and some dark spots that the acne caused. He saw us every two weeks for treatments and used homecare that got his acne under control and lifted the dark spots. His acne was in control in eight weeks.

Kalen has the toughest kind of acne to get under control, so I decided to get quite aggressive with her skin right from the start.  She has noninflamed resistive type of acne and her skin was not at all sensitive, so I put her on very strong homecare right from the beginning and had her come in for a medium-depth “Propeel”  (a TCA peel from Vivant Pharmaceuticals). Her skin cleared up in about ten weeks. We are now working to lift her sun damage from the years she lived in Maui.

Elena came to us with non-inflamed acne. She is a swimming instructor and spends all day in the pool. Some swimming pool disinfectants can contain “iodides” which can exacerbate acne conditions. I couldn't believe the story that Alison told me about her experience with a Medispa that she went to for over six months. She needlessly spent thousands on products and services that didn't work for her.
